Welcome back to New New York! Just in time for the start of the 8th season of “Futurama” on July 24, 2023, the Planet Express crew is delivering you a first trailer for the reboot of the cult animated series.
Things get chaotic as usual when we go on an adventure hunt with Fry and his friends in the next 20 episodes. 10 years after the end of season 7 it feels like the crew has never been away and yet somehow everything is different.
The new episodes tackle current issues that are occupying us in the 2020s. Vaccines, Bitcoin, Cancel Culture and Streaming are just part of what the trailer teases us about. The series deals with everything honestly as usual, but also with a sense of humor.
However, we can not only look forward to new stories, but also learn how well-known plots continue. So it seems like Leela and Fry’s relationship is still going strong and Nibbler gets his appearance as well. Can we finally find out what’s in his litter box?
We’ll see when “Futurama” celebrates its comeback for a third time. The animated series by “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening was first broadcast in 1999, and the first cancellation followed less than four years later.
In 2007 “Futurama” returned to the screens until it was canceled again in 2013. In keeping with the 10th anniversary of the 7th season, there are now new episodes.
“Futurama” is about the New Yorker Fry, who is put into cryosleep by an accident. He wakes up a thousand years later in New New York and joins the crew of Planet Express. This is directed by Fry’s descendant, Professor Farnsworth.
The 8th season of “Futurama” starts on July 24, 2023 on Disney+.
