Game news Future skateboard games to count on
The late 90s star has been forgotten in recent years to give way to other sports with more media coverage. But for a few months now, extreme sport has resurfaced, be it in the media (skateboards put on the show at the Olympics) or in video games. Now that Skater XL, Skate City and of course Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1 + 2 are available, let’s take a look into the future and dwell on the next upcoming skate games.
The ramp
Let’s start with The Ramp! The promising minimalist independent production, directed by Paul Schnepf, will hit Steam on August 3rd. It invites you to discover four colorful playgrounds dedicated to green skateboarding (skateboarding on a ramp or in swimming pools). No fuss or unnecessary frills here. Defined as a “digital toy” by its developer, the skate game has chosen to go down to the basics by highlighting the beauty of the show. In other words, no points, missions or even characters to unlock in the program, just pure and hard skateboarding.

OlliOlli world
After two successful episodes, the OlliOlli saga returns from the independent studio roll7 with a third work called OlliOlli World. The latter breaks with 2D and the usual artistic orientation of the first chapters and takes you to the countries of Radland. A whole new environment with a cartoon design and where 3D exists. From now on, our budding skater can play with the depth of the terrain to string together spectacular and extended combos. As a reminder, even if the title is more accessible than in the past, let’s imagine again that the level of difficulty will increase as the game progresses.

Ice skate 4
After more than ten years of absence, the Electronic Arts Skateboard License made a comeback during EA Play Live in June 2020 to announce a fourth opus. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a long time to get our hands on this new component with the sober title Skate 4. The title remains very mysterious a year after it was announced. At the moment, Full Circle, the developers of the game, have not announced a picture, release date, or even a game platform. However, to help us be patient, the team gave a first behind-the-scenes look at development on July 22nd.

SkateBIRD
On August 12th it is the turn of the crazy skateboarding game SkateBIRD to be presented on PC and Microsoft consoles. The title included in the GamePass invites you to play as a young skateboard bird who does not hesitate to make dozens and dozen of figures between the furniture of a house and Thrasher magazines to blow up the scores. If you’re a huge fan of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater saga, you won’t be disappointed. The Glass Bottom Games title actually uses all of the codes in Activision’s emblematic license.

Skate story
If there’s one game that has made our mouth watering for many months, it’s Skate Story, of course. Sam Eng’s mystical game puts you in control of a transparent silhouette wearing a sumptuous pair of vans to enjoy an extraordinary, dreamy journey. Indeed, the title puts the part of the score aside in order to concentrate fully on its contemplative aspect. The player will therefore be able to go through many levels at his own pace while enjoying the care of the tricks and their animations. Unfortunately, the latter does not yet have an exit window.

Reiter Republic
Let’s forget about the skateboards for the next two games to make room for board games. So the first is none other than Riders Republic, Ubisoft Annecy’s future production, expected on October 28th. Just like Steep, by which he is heavily inspired, Riders Republic benefits from a large playing area (several national parks in the USA are represented) and, above all, has a variety of playable sports Starting with skiing and snowboarding, downhill biking, paragliding and wingsuiting. Also note that the title benefits from a strong social dimension: twenty drivers can get together on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and more than fifty on next-gen PC and consoles.

paper shredder
Let’s end this list with one of the exclusive Microsoft products slated to hit PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series by the end of the year: Shredders. The open-world snowboard game, presented for the first time at the Xbox Games Showcase in 2020, offers you great tricks in varied and snowy environments.
