Day of mourning for the anime industry. One of the most important studios of the last generation closes its doors after more than 40 years offering productions that have become cult series for the majority of fans of the genre: it’s time to say goodbye to Gainax.
Through a statement on their website, the studio has confirmed that it is filing for bankruptcy after several failed attempts to stay afloat. According to the statement, the main reason for the company’s demise is that management and operations executives “acted as if they had turned their company into their personal property.”
This led to actions being taken that further worsened the studio’s finances, such as high-cost unsecured loans to individual executives and the loss of orders for investment works. All rights to Gainax will become part of Colors Co., Ltd, the company that currently manages Evangelion.
Thus, says goodbye to a studio that saw the birth of anime masterpieces, such as Neon Genesis Evangelion, Right Toppa Gurren Lagann y FLCL. Luckily, many of the original members of the company have spent time in other renowned studios that have created great works, such as Trigger, Bones it is included MAP.
