When it came to the download numbers, the Netflix employees probably took a look at it.
The mobile games on Netflix have so far flown under the radar; not too many subscribers have used the selection of titles. Now Netflix has a clear success to celebrate; in December 2023 the number of downloads almost tripled in one fell swoop. A “culprit” is quickly found: Grand Theft Auto.
GTA is a hit on Netflix
In the same month, the GTA Trilogy was released for the streaming service, which has also been spreading its feelers into gaming for a few years. For Android and iOS, San Andreas, Vice City and GTA 3 are available with a Netflix subscription at no extra cost.
How mobilegamer.biz reported, according to data from AppMagic, are the download numbers increased from 10 million in November to 28 million in December. GTA: San Andreas makes up the bear share, 11.6 million goes to the game’s cap. Vice City still has 4.1 million downloads, while GTA 3 brings up the rear with 2.4 million.
This means that San Andreas is already within a month Ranked number 2 among Netflix’s most downloaded games sorted, only Storyteller is in front of it. There are now some strong titles on the service that were originally only released for the PC.

For example, there is the unusual story game Immortality, the strategy highlight Into the Breach or the emotional Spiritfarer. But that won’t be the end of it, after all, Netflix has a few titles in the pipeline. The giant also wants to try its hand at cloud gaming, even though Google has already burned its fingers on it.
