Game Freak’s co-founder and managing director has left the studio for a senior role at The Pokemon Company

Game Freak’s managing director Junichi Masuda has left the Pokemon game studio.

Masuda left the studio he co-founded on May 31 to join The Pokemon Company as its chief creative researcher.

He has supported the Pokemon franchise for many years since the development of Pokemon Red and Green, and in his new role, he will be involved in the development of new services and products for The Pokemon Company.

“From Pokemon Ruby Sapphire to Pokemon X and Y, I’ve been a director and involved in the development of many video games including Pokemon Go,” Masuda said. “I am very grateful to all Pokemon fans.

“From here, we will go beyond the boundaries of video games to provide surprise, fun and excitement to people all over the world, challenging to connect people, expand the game circle, and create a richer world. Thank you for your continued support.”
