gamescom returns this year as a trade fair event! Today it was confirmed that the 2022 edition will be held in hybrid format. You can find out what that means in concrete terms here!
This year, gamescom will take place from August 24th to 28th, 2022 – after a two-year break due to the corona pandemic, it will finally be back in a more classic trade fair format on site. A hybrid event was confirmed today, which will take place both on site in Cologne and at the same time online for the numerous fans worldwide. Detached from this, under the motto “gamescom goes green”, the topic of sustainability has also been made a priority.
The new sustainability initiative aims to make gamescom the first climate-friendly games event and one of the first events of this magnitude with such a concept. Building on previous measures such as free public transport tickets and the gamescom forest, all emissions from the core event are to be 100 percent offset by the gamescom organizers Koelnmesse and the federal association game with the climate experts ClimatePartner. To this end, a wind energy project in Brazil and a project for clean cooking stoves in Nigeria are being supported.
As a visitor, you also have the opportunity to make a voluntary contribution to climate protection and to continue to support the further expansion of the gamescom forest near Bayreuth. Exhibitors are also directly offered the opportunity to offset the emissions caused by stand construction and travel. At the same time, the campaign should only be the beginning of the medium- and long-term plan to gear gamescom as a whole to reducing and avoiding emissions.
Further details about the fair and the participating developers and publishers will be announced at a later date.
