As usual, there is a great deal of anticipation ahead of Gamescom in August to see which manufacturers will be appearing at the Cologne trade fair. Another one has now confirmed that it will not have a stand.
Anyone who was hoping to visit the Sony Playstation stand at Gamescom in August can save themselves the expensive ticket. The manufacturer has now officially canceled its participation in the trade fair in Cologne.
Sony didn’t put too much effort into the cancellation, but recycled the statement from the previous year: “Sony Interactive currently has no plans to exhibit at Gamescom 2024.” This repeats the game of the last two years, in which Sony also decided not to participate.
That makes sense, though, because Sony doesn’t really have much to show at the moment. Concord and AstroBot are coming up, but neither of them are really big Sony brands. It’s still possible that Sony will announce or present something at least during the Gamescom Opening Night, but physical participation is not planned.
Th is means that Sony joins Nintendo, who had already canceled their participation early on. It is still unclear whether Microsoft will also be the third console manufacturer to skip the fair, but given the upcoming titles, this is rather unlikely. After all, STALKER 2, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Avowed as well as a whole range of third-party titles are still due to be released in the fall.
Meanwhile, Bandai Namco, Capcom, Blizzard, Ubisoft, THQ Nordic and a whole host of other publishers have confirmed their participation, so boredom should be kept to a minimum.
