In my personal experience, gamers love to drink. Do whatever you want, but there’s no denying that putting some Assassin’s Creed whiskey on the market was the right thing to do.
I’ve tried a few of these, trust me; it’s really, really good. With notes of rye, spice, honey, and sweetness running through the whole thing, it’s a pleasant enough drink that you can drink it straight/on the rocks without making the pull you sometimes reflexively pull “Disgusted otter” face you’re drinking cheap booze. Yes, it’s a bit pricey – but the bottle is fine, and it’s a great addition to anyone’s Assassin’s Creed collection.

Philips Hue Play Gradient Light Strip for PC
For a lot of gamers, immersion is the white whale they’re forever chasing as they sit, hunched over their PC setups, delving into their setups. But for all the tinkering you do with graphics settings, performance optimizations, and keybindings, there’s only one element of your setup that can change a lot without much effort: lighting.
In short, the Philips Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip is a multi-colored light for your monitor that sets the mood and syncs with the on-screen action to better draw you into whatever gaming world you’re enjoying. With dedicated settings for games, music, and video, you can use lights to enhance the experience of almost everything you do on your desktop.
I also have a PC Lightstrip and a (more expensive) Play Sync box – which I use through my “big TV” in the living room to provide immersive lighting for my console games. Ambient lighting is a really underrated way to improve your gaming setup and there really isn’t any worthwhile alternative on the market compared to the Philips – I have Philips bulbs in every room now and I find it really helps Gets me (and keeps me) in the gaming mood. Game Lego and the Mighty Bowser
The LEGO Group has undergone some transformations in recent years, with the company discovering that adults can enjoy the fun and creative benefits of toys as much as children. This has led to a lot of changes, including nifty new “adult” boxes for larger and more complex sets…and more video game tie-ins.
We’re not talking LEGO Super Mario here either — though those interactive kids sets are cool. In addition to this, Lego has released a series of play sets designed to inspire nostalgia for grown-ups, including replica NES and Atari 2600s, giant Mario question mark blocks with intricate dioramas hidden inside, and even a horizon Zero Dawn Turtleneck Toy. There’s also a Sonic set, which is excellent, customizable, and just as suitable for kids as it is for nostalgia-hungry adults.
However, there is a new king in town. Newly released is “The Mighty Bowser”, an absolutely massive 2807 piece set that is a model of the Mushroom Kingdom’s Koopa nemesis – recreated with stunning clarity using thousands of tiny building blocks.
It’s a really cool set, and even has some great play features – he spits (plastic) fire and has slight interactive compatibility with digital LEGO Mario figures! Still, given the size and complexity of the set, he’s clearly designed for older kids, not actual kids — and that’s fine.
Honestly, any LEGO and video game crossover is a holiday gift for gamers worth shouting about, but having built them all – yes, I’m that guy – Mighty Bowser is definitely one of the standout and most compelling a bunch.
ROCCAT VULCAN II Max Keyboard
If you’re reading this guide, chances are you don’t really understand why custom keycaps are good, or why mechanical keyboards are more popular with gamers. That’s fine! You don’t need to know that kind of thing; just accept it as true and move on. If you know someone who values both visual aesthetics and performance, the ROCCAT Vulcan II Max is for you.
This top-of-the-line (but decidedly impressive) keyboard combines strobe RGB lighting, a translucent wrist rest, and 24 dual-LED smart keys with programmable assist functions. If that doesn’t make sense to you, think of it in these terms: it looks good, it feels good, and it’s customizable to your heart’s desire. Yes, at almost £200, it’s a lot of money – but the cash you’re putting down for this keyboard is future-proofed: it’s durable, sturdy, well-made, and it’s also compatible with pretty much every PC gaming setup on the market.
For some, aesthetics and image are more important than cash outlays. To that end, Roccat’s rather pricey Vulcan II Max keyboard offers an RGB light show like no other — a whole host of features and great features in addition to the Vegas-like lights and sparkle. Note that this is only a wired connection thing.

Or, maybe time is a bit tight and you’re targeting a smaller desk size. Don’t worry, ROCCAT staff can help you too. The ROCCAT Vulcan II Mini costs less – RRP around £130 – but it has the same build quality, it’s light and compact and just as customizable as its (larger) bigger brother.
Even better, this machine’s streamlined power source is also the perfect gift for the typist or media type; it’s the keyboard I’ve been using for the past few months to write features and articles on this site, and I really think it’s Increased my productivity. And, since each of its 67 keys uses a super-fast optical switch, it’s also a nifty little thing. what.
There are two ROCCAT items on this list, yes. But of all the keyboard hardware I’ve used in my 10+ years as a professional in this industry, I can’t help but think they’re the best. You pay a premium for the items on offer, but their quality and longevity are undeniable. Of course, your mileage may vary, but for my money, these are some of the sleekest, most functional keyboards around.
Thrustmaster T128 racing steering wheel
The Thrustmaster T128 is a great little sim turntable that’s a bit cheaper than its entry-level rivals, but crucially, is compact and very easy to clip on (and more importantly: from a desktop release it).
That means, in stark contrast to nearly every other analog wheel with force feedback, 900-degree swivel, brisk shifting, and an included pedal set, when you need to retract your countertop, simply store it in a cupboard You can, and reassemble it while you sink into Euro Truck Simulator 2 for a few hours in your biennial OCD.
It’s by no means the best analog steering wheel on the market, but it’s a huge upgrade from trying to play driving games with a controller, and it’s designed so well that it doesn’t have to take up a permanent space in your life. It’s the perfect Christmas gift for a loved one who would love to have an analog steering wheel but doesn’t want to dedicate any of the floor space to proper racing seats. Analog wheels for the rest of us. A whim wheel, if you will.

If you love reading about video game sites, you’ll absolutely give the shit out of yourself when you hear about another place you can read about them: in books! on the paper! Or on an e-reader, I think, which is very similar to reading on a website. But, book! they are very cute.
Who doesn’t love a book for Christmas? There are plenty of gaming books out there, from classics like Masters of DOOM to some great recent releases like Console Wars, which uses a series of intricate interviews to tell the story of the brutal Sega-versus-Nintendo showdown of the 90s. The latter was even picked up as a Hollywood movie – but aside from all these more publicized releases, there’s a label quietly doing a great job.
Enter Boss Fight Books. This is a unique publisher where reach books are game-specific – sometimes charting their creations, sometimes analyzing their content, sometimes just talking about how awesome and culturally significant they are. Often, any given book is actually a mix of all three.
