Nintendo has accustomed us to the fact that every year there is at least one game of Fire Emblem on Switch since the console’s launch. Without going any further, we start 2023 with Fire Emblem Engage. Of course, the circle will have been completed before the end of June: Fire Emblemthe first game in the franchise to reach the West, is added to the catalog of the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack.

A very special reunion, since its original launch took place in 2003. However, it was not the first game in the saga, nor was it the debut of Fire Emblem on Game Boy Advance: the game is known in Japan as Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade and, as we mentioned, it marked the long-delayed international debut of the saga after six installments that caused a sensation in its country of origin. A title that, by the way, reached us in Europe in Spanish. The rest is history.

How has the passage of time affected you by the mythical Fire Emblem Game Boy Advance? As you can see, his pixelated strategy and classic RPG charm hold up much better than most of his contemporaries.

Presentations done, Fire Emblem will be added to Nintendo Switch Online June 23 (almost coinciding with the transition from spring to summer), being available at no additional cost to all those who have the Expansion Pack, which adds titles from Mega Drive, Nintendo 64 and the aforementioned Game Boy Advance to the classic games.

To take into account, the mythical Fire Emblem Game Boy Advance was re-released via Virtual Console on later systems, though on those occasions content was limited as modes with multi-cartridge connection or single-cartridge connection were not accessible.

The beauty of the Nintendo Switch Online approach is that the classics with multiplayer can be enjoyed on two consoles online, and in the process, features such as a rewind and save-on-the-fly system are added that, most likely, will end up tempting us depending on what fights

From here, a note: as a general rule, GBA games do not usually arrive loose on Nintendo Switch Online: between two and four classics are usually offered with each new batch. Why only one game this time? Well, the truth is that technically Nintendo rescued two games.

If we take a look at the Japanese announcement, we will see that in addition to adding Fire Emblem: The Blazing Bladein the country of the rising sun the previous installment titled Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade. The reason why we won’t see it in the West, on the other hand, is not much of a mystery: it can only be played in Japanese.

Little by little, saga Fire Emblem has established itself as one of the most established franchises on Nintendo Switch based on rescuing classics, betting on new formulas and appearing referred to in different ways in the key releases of the Big N. A significant percentage of the Super Smash Bros. swordsmen come from from the Intelligent Systems saga.

The last foray of Fire Emblem on Switch before closing 2023? Luckily for those who are passionate about RPG strategy, and seeing the movements in previous years, we do not dare to assure it.
