It's official, the Game Developers Conference to be held this summer will go all-digital.
At the end of March, Informa Tech, the organizer of the Game Developers Conference, announced that it was compensating for the cancellation of its trade show – due to coronavirus – with a summer event. The conference was then scheduled to take place from August 4 to 6 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, and would have included round tables, micro-conferences and "fireside discussions". Finally, the GDC changes format again.
Always scheduled on the same dates, from August 4 to 6, the GDC Summer will be a fully digital event. In a press release, the organizers express themselves:
While we look forward to meeting again in person as soon as possible, we are moving forward with a plan to turn GDC Summer into a fully digital event to better serve our community.
As so many game developers are adapting to remote work and online collaboration, we are inspired to adapt and offer CDM in a digital format that will be available to everyone with an Internet connection, and to provide the content of high quality and the meeting opportunities that participants expect.
We believe in the power of bringing our community together to share, inspire and strengthen our industry and we are determined to offer this opportunity in August. We look forward to sharing more information on GDC Summer soon.
