A Gears of War 3 demo running on PlayStation 3It apparently set off alarms in the industry very recently. A YouTube channel has published an entire campaign game playing in a PS3 development kit with material that Epic Games itself has claimed to be real. The team experimented with this game on the Sony console to test the use of Unreal Engine 3 on the console.
The channel of YouTube Proto ** has released a video playing the entire GoW 3 campaign on the console via a debug version. Note that the original game was released on Xbox 360 and that the saga, to date, has never seen the light on a Sony console, hence the striking of this revelation. ** Cliff Bleszinski himself, ex of the studio, came to the fore yesterday to deny the veracity of this video. However, Epic stepped up later to affirm that, in effect, it’s totally real. You can see it below:
An obvious lack of optimization, especially since it is nowhere near a final version, it shows a much worse performance on PlayStation 3. It was the result of an experiment for test the engine and some techniques used in it within this console, although it has nothing to do with a jump in the franchise. Gears of War is still closely linked to Microsoft, as we have recently seen with Gears 5, and it does not seem that we will see it on PlayStation 5 or on other future platforms of the company.
