Available on PC for a few days, Gears Tactics has made a strong impression, especially because it comes from studios not used to making tacticals.
If it has some imbalances and flat characters, Gears Tactics offers refreshing game systems and a universe respected to the letter, in a genre where the most often cited representative is none other than XCOM. Designed to be played on keyboard and mouse, the title of Splash Damage produced in partnership with The Coalition is nonetheless planned for Xbox One, as Microsoft specifies on the official support site :
Gears Tactics was designed from the ground up for the PC with keyboard / mouse based gameplay and a user interface with incredible optimization, allowing it to run on many machines. We want to make sure that Gears Tactics feels at home on a console: our team therefore works hard to design an adapted quality experience. Expect Gears Tactics to be playable on your Xbox console later this year in late 2020.
In other words, there is a big work to do to adapt the gameplay to the gamepad, without losing quality. A difficult job, but one that has already been successful in other games of the genre. Furthermore, support says "Xbox consoles", which may suggest porting to the Xbox Series X, although this has not been confirmed by Microsoft. To obtain a specific date, you will have to go back, even if in all cases, the wait will not be extremely long.
