George Miller has returned in style to cinemas around the world with Angry, a film that, although it has not had a spectacular performance at the box office, has been classified by the public as one of the best of the year. In addition to the intense action, the film has stood out for its dialogues and speeches, some of which, to the surprise of many, have their origins in Europe.
In an interview with the media FramesGeorge Miller assured that one of Hemsworth’s last great dialogues in the film was born as a result of a bullfight that the director witnessed during a trip through Europe more than a decade ago, where he saw how one of the bulls was pardoned by the bullfighter.
“He told me that that was not good at all, because I would die without honor. I had not quite entered into the code of honor, the mystique or the ritual behind it. And then Juan told me something that stuck in my head: ‘ All that a bullfight needs to be something unique is for the matador and the bull to be equal to each other.’ It seemed to me something magnificent, that necessary bond between two rivals, between two beings condemned to confront each other.”
This phrase stayed in Miller’s mind and, 13 years later, he decided to use it in the prequel to Mad Max to give more power and evil to Dementus, the villain played by Chris Hemsworth, who has been Furiosa’s main enemy for many years.
Without a doubt, Miller chooses references from almost anywhere, and it is likely that we will see some more in his future projects, such as the second Mad Max prequel centered on the character of Tom Hardy, which he has also been planning to create for some time.
