From a storytelling perspective, Elden Ring is known for being full of suggestive hints without explicitly spelling out the entire storyline, and screenwriter George R.R. Martin seems to be living up to that philosophy with his real-world interactions. Well, he acknowledged rumors that Elden Ring could be adapted into a TV show or movie.
Yes, stop trying to understand the meaning of the deleted dialogue that data miners have discovered in Shadow of the Erdtree, and stop wondering what it means lore-wise when someone defeats Mesmer using a dance pad, it’s time to try to understand what one of the greatest fantasy writers of all time has to say on his blog.

In the latest post on this blog, Martin discusses the prize with the aid of some baseball philosophy, and also takes time to discuss in detail the idea of whether FromSoft will land on the big screen or on the small screen that all the furniture is pointing to.
“Oh, and regarding those rumors you may have heard about a movie or TV show based on Elden Ring,” Martin wrote, “I have nothing to say. Not a word, no, nothing, I know nothing, you’ve never heard me say a word, fuck fuck. What rumors?”
If Martin truly didn’t know about this sort of thing, or at least didn’t know it was going to happen, then that seems a bit of a stretch to say so, as people like him know that anything they draw attention to in public comments will inevitably be heavily scrutinized and analyzed by fans.
So while there’s no hard evidence that we’ll see ER appear in another medium at some point, it certainly makes things more complicated than the authors giving us a straight no and not even mentioning it.
Besides, you can’t just mention that Elden Ring won the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association Award in 2023 without dropping a big tease, right? For whatever reason, Martin chose not to thank Miyazaki and FromSoft at the end of ER, instead saying, “I did the worldbuilding for this project; Miyazaki and his team did the rest.”
