It sounds like George RR Martin did not participate in the development of Elden Ring as you might think.
If it is not disclosed in advance, the news that George RR Martin is working with FromSoftware on its next project will be one of the biggest surprises in the history of the game. But due to Eldon Ring Officially announced, we understand his role in the development process, we have not really heard any news about his work in the game from the author.
Martin recently accepted an interview with the local news station WTTW during a trip to earn an honorary doctorate from his old school, the Northwest Medell School of Journalism. During the interview, the author was asked about “Elden Ring” and seemed to have been paying attention to the news of its recent release date.
He revealed that his participation in this project actually ended a few years ago. Since then, FromSoftware has been sharing development progress with him, showing new monster designs, etc.
“Actually, it’s quite different,” Martin said of the game development compared to his normal work. “My work was actually completed a few years ago. These games are just like movies. They take a long time to develop,” he added.
Martin also explained the type of work he actually did for the game, which sounded very non-interfering.
“Basically, they want a world set for the game. They want world building as an important element in fantasy and science fiction,” he explained.
“Not only are you talking about the characters and the plot, the environment is almost as important as everything else. I prepared a fairly detailed background for them, and they took it from there.
“Really, it has been several years since I saw them last time, but they will regularly show me some monsters or the latest special effects they designed. The development of the game is very slow, and it will be launched in January. See I will be as excited as everyone else.”
Recently, we learned a lot about Elden Ring from multiple interviews with director Miyazaki Hidetaka, including legends, exploration, cooperation, gameplay and so on.
Elden Ring will be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on January 21.
