Get ready for an Assassin’s Creed remake, says Ubisoft CEO, as everyone and their mom starts chanting Black Flag

Good news, fans of the game that long loved to drop at least one finger so you could run across rooftops and leap onto unsuspecting guards: Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot says some Assassin’s Creed remasters are on the way. And yes, one of them might be a game with all the pirate elements.

While the Assassin’s Creed franchise is currently dominated by Assassin’s Creed: Shadow, which will take us to feudal Japan in November and let us play as a pair of cool and different protagonists, we all love to replay the games we played before and revel in our love for them again. It seems that Ubisoft is keenly aware of this.

In an interview with Ubisoft, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that some Assassin’s Creed remasters are coming, but he didn’t reveal which games in the series will actually get the treatment. “First of all, players will be excited about some remasters,” he revealed in response to a question about the future of the series. “This will allow us to revisit some of the games we created in the past and modernize them; the worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games are still very rich.”

“Secondly, to answer your question, the game experience will be more diverse,” Guillemot continued. “Our goal is to release Assassin’s Creed games more regularly, but the experience every year will not be the same. There will be a lot of good things in the future, including the Assassin’s Creed: Black Magic that we have announced, which will be a completely different game from Assassin’s Creed: Shadow. I think we will bring surprises to players.”

So, there you have it. As for which games might be getting remastered, our only possible clue is a Kotaku report from last year that claimed a team at Ubisoft Singapore (the studio behind Skull & Bones) was working on a remaster of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

The report states that the project is “still in its early stages and won’t be completed for at least a few years,” and, if that turns out to be true, will only cover one remake — and now you can dream up any other AC remake, since Guillemot has talked about multiple remakes in interviews.

Well, that’s it. If you want to learn more about Assassin’s Creed: Shadow, be sure to watch the 12-minute gameplay trailer released during this summer’s Ubisoft Forward event.
