Since Ghostbusters first hit theaters in 1984, every Ghostbusters theatrical adventure has had at least one video game adaptation. Even the controversial 2016 reboot got its official video game. Unfortunately for gamers who are fans of Ghostbusters, the return of the original universe to theaters doesn’t come with the release of a new adaptation. To close this gap to a minimum, Sony offers a mini-game that can be discovered in another of its productions.
Sony is coming out reveal the release of a Ghostbusters: Afterlife mini-game developed in Dreams to promote the release of the film.
This mini-game with the bold title Ghostbusters: Beyond in Dreams, is available until February 28th. Its creation is the result of an 18-week collaboration between Media Molecule, Sony Pictures and members of the Dreams community. Not to name them, these members are Guillaume “SlurmMacKenzie“Chevrier and Alfred”byvsen“Nilson.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife in Dreams is all about scoring. The player has 60 seconds to get the highest possible score by catching ghosts inspired by the new movie. Since the beam of the proton packet is destructive, it is possible to damage the scenery. However, the damage done is reduced in the final grade. So it is important to be as clean as possible.
No announcement but a rumor about a new Ghostbusters game
To make the task even more complicated, the vicious mini-pufts come to wreak havoc and cause damage during the round. Therefore, along with the rest, the player must prevent them from wreaking havoc. And if he manages to eliminate enough, a certain creature well-known to Ghostbusters fans will point the tip of its nose …
As of now, there are no real Ghostbusters: Afterlife games in the plans of Sony Pictures. However, there is a serious rumor that a new Ghostbusters game is in development at Illfonic.
When the Ghostbusters were released in 2016, Activision was simultaneously releasing a game that was vaguely inspired by the movie. Unfortunately, this title was of extremely limited interest to fans of the license. A special pack for LEGO Dimensions has also been released. And at the same time, Sony Pictures had published two PlayStation VR experiences for a fee on PSN. These are still available.
As a reminder, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, entitled SOS Fantômes: L’Héritage en France, hits French cinemas on December 1st. For its part, Dreams is still available on PS4 (and therefore on PS5).
What do you think of this operation? Do you think using Dreams is a smart way to promote Ghostbusters Afterlife? Would you have wished Ghostbusters: The Legacy were entitled to a full-fledged game of their own? Do you plan to see the movie? Tell us all about it in the comments below.
