In recent years, the Ghostbusters license has been used much more often on smartphones than consoles. The ghost breakers were actually entitled to a Match-3, a Pokémon GO-like or a Playmobil game. In addition, Ghostbusters have appeared in various blockbuster mobile games. A few days before the release of their new film, the Ghostbusters are also preparing their video game return. And if it’s not customary, it happens on the phone.
Imprezario Entertainment has just released Ghostbusters: Afterlife ScARe, a brand new game. This is about an augmented reality mobile game that takes place in the universe of the film of the same name.
In Ghostbusters: Afterlife ScARe, the player is obviously confronted with these creatures. And since the game uses augmented reality, ghosts appear around the player. In addition to fighting the ghosts with the famous Ghostbusters gear, the player must physically avoid the attacks. If he doesn’t respond quickly enough, he runs the risk of his phone getting covered in ectoplasm.
Who do we call?
In parallel to these clashes, the budding Ghostbuster has to solve puzzles and collect energy capsules. These are then used to power the ghost hunter gear.
One of the unique things about Ghostbusters: Afterlife ScARe is that it features several of the comedians from the new film. In fact, Phoebe, Trevor, Podcast and Lucky sometimes “call” the player to give them clues. As in the movie, the ultimate goal is to prevent the resurrection of Gozer (the Gozerian).
Ghostbusters: Afterlife ScARe will be released to coincide with the US release of the film on November 19th. The game will be published on iOS and Android devices.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife ScARe, the only video game from the movie?
As for a possible return of Ghostbusters to consoles, nothing has been officially announced yet. However, the Illfonic co-founder recently said his studio was currently working on a Ghostbusters game. It remains to be seen when the latter will be revealed. In the meantime, PS4-PS5 players can experience the Ghostbusters Afterlife mini-game from Dreams.
As a reminder: SOS Fantômes: L’Héritage will open in French cinemas on December 1st.
