Ghostbusters: Spirit Unleashed is the next game from IllFonic, the studio behind Predator: Hunting Grounds, Friday the 13th: The Game and others.
Titled 4v1 “Hunt or Haunt,” a four-player team battles ghosts. You can play as the Proton Pack-weidling Ghostbusters, or try to outsmart human enemies by avoiding ghost traps.
As the Ghostbusters, you’ll work together to hunt down ghosts, blast them with a stream of particle jets to hold them in place, and close traps when the time is right. You’ll also need to keep your citizens calm and capture ghosts before the environment gets too haunted.
As a ghost, your task is to scare the citizens in different locations. You have the ability to fly and teleport between cracks, possess items, and scare passersby. You can also slime or summon ghost minions at will, and linger around each map as one of multiple ghosts with different abilities until you’re done.
Aspiring Ghostbusters and Ghosts will prepare for each match of the Firehouse by customizing their characters and upgrading equipment and abilities. There’s even an area to practice with the Particle Thrower and its different modifications.
Here, you’ll also get the mission of Winston Zeddemore voiced by Ernie Hudson, and you’ll meet some old and new friends like Ray Stantz from Dan Aykroyd who runs the Ray’s Occult Books store.
If you don’t have enough people to play with, or just want to get something done on your own, the in-game AI characters can fill the vacancies. But it’s always more fun to play with friends, and thanks to cross-platform multiplayer, it doesn’t matter which system your friends are playing on.
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will be available on the Epic Games Store on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. No release date was provided.
