Sony has reportedly canceled an unannounced God of War live game, as well as another live game in development by Days Gone developer Bend Games.

That's according to a report from Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, who considers God of War to be the work of Bluepoint Games – best known for Uncharted: Nathan… Remasters and remakes like The Drake Collection and 2020's Demon's Souls have been “hardly in development” for a few years.

A spokesperson told Schreier that both projects have been canceled “following recent review,” adding that neither studio will be shut down due to the change in plans and that PlayStation will continue to produce online and stand-alone games. Player title.

They also added that the company will be “working closely” with Bluepoint and Bend to determine what their next projects will be as these live service games are finalized before they become available.

The news is another heavy blow to PlayStation's plans for a major live streaming service announced a few years ago, when it said it hoped to launch 12 new live streaming service games by 2025. Since then, aside from being a huge success, things have been pretty dire for the project as far as Helldiver 2 is concerned.

The release and then almost immediate unrelease of Concord is obviously the most high-profile example and a real situation faced by developers, but it's not the only one. For every game like the Bungie's Marathon reboot, which may have had a rocky road in its own way but we still expect to play soon, there's a canceled game like Bungie's Destiny's spin-off game Payback.

For every Horizon Online in Guerilla, The Last of Us Online. That's a pretty shocking success rate, and it's not a good use of the first-party studio firepower PlayStation has amassed, even if it's giving away some of it, which is frustratingly typical of the recent fad of layoffs in the games industry .
