Lycoris recoilis one of the most popular anime original series of 2022, and it’s getting a miniseries to tide you over while you wait for Season 2.
Most of the time, anime that aren’t based on manga don’t end up being as popular as the series based on manga, but in 2022, Lycoris Recoil broke that record. The anime is so good that even Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima couldn’t help but give it a thumbs up, and he even got the same shirt as Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn (who was also the face model for Heartman in Death Stranding, apparently). If you’re reading this, Kojima—or if you’re just a fan of the anime—I have good news! The official Japanese Twitter account for Lycoris Recoil announced yesterday that a six-episode miniseries is on the way, focusing on the daily lives of Chisato, Takina, and others.

Lycoris Recoil director Shingo Adachi will oversee all six episodes, with different people directing and storyboarding each episode. Original character designer Imigimuru is also responsible for some of the scripts. There are no further details beyond this, but the tweet shows a preview, which you can see above.

This is obviously great news for fans of the series, and it’s nice to know there’s something to watch while you wait for season 2. Season 2 was announced last February, but details have been scarce since then. For those unfamiliar with the series, it tells the story of a secret government organization made up of completely young orphaned girls known as the “Lycoris” who disguise themselves as high school students and assassinate criminals and terrorists before they can commit crimes. It was definitely a concept that was a little out there for some, but with another season and this miniseries already released, it’s clear that it’s resonating with enough people to warrant their attention.
