You can restore or reinstall Google Chrome settings on another PC by making a backup. We’ll show you how to do this.
When you use Google Chrome, a lot of your personal data is collected to make your browsing experience more comfortable. In addition to login information, this includes your browsing history, bookmarks, extensions, credit card details, addresses and much more.
However, you won’t find a classic backup function in the settings that allows you to save this data on your hard drive. Instead, the backup is done using data that Chrome stores in the so-called profile folder.
Alternatively, you can connect Chrome to your Google account and store all your data in the Google Drive cloud, where you can manage it independently of the web browser. We will introduce you to both methods.

To find and save the profile folder, you need a file manager. In Windows 10, this is the File Explorer, in macOS, the Finder, and in Linux, it depends on the distribution. There, you navigate to the respective Chrome data directory, which you can find in the following places. Instead of %NAME% you must enter your respective user name.

Windows 7, 8.1, 10 and 11:
C:\Users\%NAME%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\
-
3
macOS:
Users/%NAME%/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/
-
4
Linux:
/home/%NAME%/.config/google-chrome/
-

Regardless of the operating system, you will find a folder there called “Default”. You can simply copy this to any other location on your hard drive or to a USB stick. If you want to restore your data after reinstalling Chrome, simply copy this folder to the corresponding location in the directory described above.
