The police in the US city of Kansas City want to use Google Maps to solve a year-old series of murders. One of the suspects could be doomed by a feature of the app.
In Kansas City, local police are trying to solve a series of allegedly related crimes that took place in 2015. In addition to cocaine trafficking and an armed robbery, this also includes two murders. Officials have already identified two suspects, but have not yet convicted them of the crime. Google Maps should help with this.
As Forbes reported, the investigating authorities have made a request to Google to obtain the movement data of all cell phones with activated Google Maps location history located near the crime scenes. This dragnet search has been criticized because investigators also target innocent people.

Google has now provided the authorities with data on a single user who was in one of the locations at the time of the crime. However, it is still unclear whether this is one of the suspects. If investigators can convict the two of murder, they face the death penalty.
