New tablet from Google
With the Pixel Tablet, Google is also attempting a fresh start in the tablet market after the successful restart of the Pixel cell phone series. We’ll tell you here what we can expect from the launch in spring 2023.
Last spring, Google caused a small surprise at the in-house developer conference Google I/O: In addition to the Pixel 7, a first look at the first Google Pixel tablet was also offered there. With a mixture of smart display and tablet PC on its own docking stati on, it should accompany you in everyday life in the future.
Admittedly, it wouldn’t be the first time that Google has drawn attention to itself with tablet PCs. With the Nexus 7, still produced by Asus in 2012, the Internet giant brought a tablet onto the market for the first time. In 2014, however, the model series was scrapped again and no new Google device from this category has appeared since then.
That should change with the first tablet from the Pixel family. In the meantime, the information and leaks about the new Android tablet are piling up and the device should be available in stores as early as 2023. Here we collect all the rumors and facts that appear in advance and tell you in advance what you can expect from the gadget.
When is the Pixel Tablet coming out?
There is still no fixed release date for the Google Pixel Tablet. We currently expect that the tablet will be presented at the upcoming I/O together with the Pixel 7a in spring 2023.
How much will the Pixel Tablet cost?
A price for the Pixel Tablet has not yet appeared and an assessment is difficult. Because Google wants to rely on its own hardware for the Tensor chipset, there are only a few points of reference in terms of performance and price comparison.
An asking price that shouldn’t be taken very seriously has appeared on the Facebook Marketplace. There, an unknown user offered a prototype of the tablet for $400. It has not yet been conclusively clarified where the specimen came from and why more or less was not charged for the supposed tablet.
However, it is quite possible that Google could place the tablet – just like the Pixel smartphones – in the upper middle class in terms of price and performance, which would speak for a price between 300 and 600 dollars.
Google had already targeted this area in the past. At that time, the smallest version of the Google Nexus 7 was available from 229 dollars and marked the affordable entry into the middle class. The Pixel smartphones were also relaunched with a positive price-performance ratio. There is a good chance that the internet giant will stick to this strategy.
What versions of the Pixel Tablet will there be?
We are currently assuming a tablet. However, there are first rumors that Google could also be planning a more powerful Pro version in addition to a Smart Display version.
What innovations will the Pixel Tablet bring?
It is considered certain that Google will equip the Pixel Tablet with a version of its own Tensor chipset. It is not yet known whether it will be the Tensor G2 of the Pixel 7, a still unknown Tensor G3 of an upcoming Pixel 8 or maybe even a completely new variant especially for tablet PCs.
What is certain, however, is that Google will not only see the Pixel Tablet as a tablet, but also designed as a smart display. That was already clear from the first advertising images. There will be a docking station for the device to charge the tablet.
The design is reminiscent of the Smart Display Nest Hub. Here, speakers and microphones are located in the base. It remains to be seen whether the docking station of the Pixel Tablet will also be equipped with it and whether it will also offer a comparable Google Assistant functionality.
