Google wants to keep cloud gaming big

Google’s Stadia cloud gaming offering has been around for around twenty months. During this time there were some setbacks such as the closure of the specially founded game studio. Current job advertisements make it clear, however, that Google continues to pursue great goals (via 9to5Google).

In view of the ambitions of the group described for the release, this is no surprise. As Google already explained to us in an interview in 2019, Stadia is a project for the future that should go far beyond the success of current consoles:

  • Lead our TV offensive to bring cloud gaming to more devices
  • Work with vendors to expand the ecosystem of devices that support Stadia’s hardware and software requirements

In addition to the actual (gaming) experience, the main focus is on expanding it to as many devices as possible.

Behind this approach is also the basis of Google’s more than ambitious goal of reaching “billions of players”. After all, televisions and smartphones are much more widespread than game PCs and consoles.

Many Stadia are skeptical of other Google projects that have started ambitiously and then ended up being discontinued, such as Google Plus or Google Glass.

What bothers players about Stadia? The biggest criticisms include the inadequate supply and the business model: You have to buy games especially for Stadia, even if you already have them for another platform.

Alternatively, there is a monthly terminable Pro access. At the moment it only contains 25 games and no real highlights like that official game list shows.
