A few weeks before its release, the action role-playing game Gotham Knights surprised console gamers with disappointing news. Discord announced that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S can only be played at 30 FPS. Here you can find out what justifies this decision and what applies to the PC version.
Special features cost performance
On the official Discord server, on October 15th, just under a week before the game’s October 21st release, posted the following message
I know many of you are wondering if there will be a performance mode for Gotham Knights on consoles. Due to certain features in our game, such as the totally free co-op experience in our highly detailed open world, it is not possible to simply lower the resolution and thus achieve higher FPS. Because of this, our game has no way to toggle between performance and quality and will run at 30 FPS on consoles.
In many current games, consoles have the option of activating a performance mode that downscales performance-intensive graphics features and thus ensures higher FPS. Many players had also hoped for this opportunity from Gotham Knights and were therefore now disappointed. In our preview, our author Gloria draws a preliminary positive conclusion:

If Gotham Knights continues like this, Batman may well be dead
However, many players can’t imagine enjoying Gotham Knights in only 30 FPS and now don’t want to buy the game or have canceled their pre-order. So writes about Frogboyx1Gaming on twitter:
I’m definitely not paying $70 for 30fps on Xbox Series X and PS5.
R34L1TY on the other hand, one wonders why there can be no compromise when features like co-op mode are the reason for the 30 FPS limitation:
[…] Why can’t you just limit it to 30 FPS if I’m really playing the multiplayer? Or maybe you could switch between online and offline mode in the settings? Or just anything other than capping the game at 30 FPS for something some people don’t even use.
Others also express little understanding for the reasons given by the developers. This is how the Twitter account argues Visual Fidelity similar to many others with the fact that many current titles are able to deliver a performance mode:
let’s be honest If Spiderman, Saints Row, GTA, Watch Dogs Legion and Cyberpunk can do 60 FPS, then Gotham Knights can too.
What applies to the PC?
However, if you want to play on the PC, you have no reason to worry: Not only should upscaling technologies such as Nvidia’s DLSS improve performance, but the FPS, as is usual for the platform, should not be subject to an upper limit. The PC trailer shows the most important features and talks about them ultrahohen Framerates

Gotham Knights really cranks up the new trailer – DLSS, ray tracing and more confirmed
On the official site we also learn which components are necessary for playing at 60 FPS at least. The following system requirements apply to a resolution of 1920×1080 and the lowest graphics settings:
operating system | Windows 10, 64 Bit |
Processor (CPU) | Intel Core i5-9600K AMD Ryzen 5 3600 |
graphics card (GPU) | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti AMD Radeon RX 590 |
Random Access Memory (RAM) | 8 GB |
So you probably don’t have to have a high-end system to be able to play Gotham Knights and you can also play with older components on lower settings. Of course, you will need more power for 4K and ray tracing effects.
