18 years ago, Gothic, a veteran of the role-playing genre, was released – and now this classic could possibly return in a new guise. Anyway, THQ Nordic is willing to start a remake if they are interested. Therefore, a playable teaser has now been released, which is intended to get the community to give feedback.
Via Steam the trial version of a Gothic remake now available for download. All owners of a Piranha Bytes game – i.e. Gothic 1-3, Risen 1-3 or ELEX – have access to this teaser in their Steam library. In this way, the currently nameless Gothic HD project can be tried out by visiting the Khorinis mine colony.
Then there is a short questionnaire that will answer the key question for THQ Nordic: Should a new Gothic in production go into production or do fans prefer that the venerable legacy and the associated great memories remain untouched?
The new edition is based on the advanced Unreal Engine 4 from Epic Games and has received further improvements in addition to the new look, including the combat system. In addition to the teaser trailer below, you can also get a first impression of this message using a comparison video between the new and the old version.
A new THQ studio in Barcelona is responsible for the development of the teaser; Piranha Bytes itself is not involved but is feverishly dedicated to another project that is to be announced in 2020. The teaser's playing time is currently around two hours. If the remake is fully implemented, the waiting time until the release will be a long time.
