The Grammy Awards 2025 are approaching and since 2023 this has also been interesting for gaming. Now the five nominations for best soundtrack have been announced.
Since 2023, the Grammy Awards have also had a category for “Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media” and so far Ubisoft and EA have been able to secure the titles, namely for Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
At least Ubisoft now has the chance to score a double hit, as the publisher is nominated with two titles. However, there are also two strong Sony titles, which doesn’t make it a safe bet.
The following soundtracks are nominated:
-
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – Pinar Toprak, composer
-
God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla – Bear McCreary, Composer
-
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 – John Paesano, Composer
-
Star Wars Outlaws – Wilbert Roget, II, Composer
-
Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord – Winifred Phillips, Komponist
So it could be exciting. The nomination of Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord is a bit surprising, however, as it is a remake of an ancient title and the suspicion is that the nomination committee really wanted to include a smaller title after criticism in recent years that only well-known blockbusters ended up on the list. However, this is also due to the fact that the majority of voters come from the film industry and have little contact with the video game industry.
Well, the Grammy Awards will take place on February 2nd and then we’ll find out which game or soundtrack ultimately won out. How about you, what is your favorite video game soundtrack? Here is an excerpt from the winning soundtrack from 2023 by Stephanie Economou:
