This past weekend was the Gran Turismo World Finals and the 25th anniversary of Gran Turismo. During the event, it was revealed that Polyphony Digital might be porting Gran Turismo 7 to the PC platform.
GTPlanet sat down with Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi to pick the game designer’s brains. Given that Sony is making moves to bring some of its franchises to PC, including God of War and Spider-Man, this has raised questions about whether Yamauchi would consider bringing the Gran Turismo series to PC.
“Yes, I do think so,” Yamauchi said. “Gran Turismo is a finely tuned game. There aren’t many platforms that can run the game natively at 4K/60p, so one way we’re making this happen is by narrowing down the platforms…”
“It’s not an easy subject, but of course, we’re looking at it and thinking about it.”
As of now, Gran Turismo 7 is able to run on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, the latest consoles supporting 4k/60p gameplay and ray tracing in its menus and replay footage. That said, seeing a game ported to PC will undoubtedly attract new and returning players.
As a PlayStation exclusive since its conception in 1997, this port is certainly a major evolution for the series. For now, though, fans and those eager to play racing games on PC will have to wait a little longer for an update to the series. While Yamauchi’s answer to the Gran Turismo 7 PC port question is hopeful, it’s not known if and when that will actually happen.
