One of the more unusual video game adaptations is that of Gran Turismo, after all racing games are not generally known as a suitable model for this. Sony now showed what the whole thing can look like at the CES in Las Vegas – because from there you can now get hold of the first short film impressions.
Sony presented the first moving footage from the Gran Turismo film at the Consumer Electronics Show 2023 press conference in Las Vegas. This sneak peek video focuses on the scenes on the racetrack of the motorsport film, but does not allow any major conclusions to be drawn about the film’s story.
Among other things, the clip reveals how the filmmakers around director Neill Blomkamp (“District 9”) tried to capture the look of the games with real racing cars. For this purpose, for example, drone recordings and replay modes were used. The actual gameplay experience is said to be captured through cockpit cameras and also mimicking the camera perspective from the games.
The cast of the strip also has their say and can be seen. Orlando Bloom, for example, stated that the film adaptation was “made for the cinema”. David Harbor adds that the viewer should feel drawn into the middle of the action.
The film will also have drama and love store slurs, as confirmed by Archie Madekwe, who will play Jann Mardenborough. After all, the film adaptation is based on the story of the real Mardenborough, who went from being a Gran Turismo player at home to a real racer – thanks to GT Academy.
A full-fledged trailer is yet to come, but is likely to follow in the foreseeable future. After all, Gran Turismo should be in cinemas from August 11, 2023.
