It was THE topic of the week: A hacker caused a huge leak around Grand Theft Auto 6 and published a lot of material from an early version of the game. Now the person responsible has been arrested.

A huge leak caused a stir last weekend: a hacker had apparently illegally gained access to a large amount of material from the upcoming GTA 6 and put it online; two days later, Rockstar Games admitted this fact and also confirmed the authenticity of the material. The more than 90 video clips showed an early version of the game, which is why the graphics were sometimes harshly criticized in the community. Now the big hack appears to have legal ramifications.

Latest reports online say that a 17-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the Uber and Rockstar Games hacks and is currently being held in custody. A corresponding access has now taken place in Oxfordshire in Great Britain.

The suspect was tracked down through cooperation between the British National Cyber Crime Unit and the American FBI. According to the former ReutersJournalist Matthew Keys is expected to receive an official statement from the police and FBI later in the day.

What consequences await the hacker is not known at the moment. He also asked Rockstar Games employees to contact him and negotiate a deal so that no more material from the hack would be published; that could also qualify as blackmail.

The huge hack had also more or less officially confirmed some details previously leaked by industry insiders. GTA 6 will have two protagonists, including a woman for the first time. Miami-based Vice City has also been confirmed as a location.
