Grand Theft Auto V is no longer considered to be completely new in view of the long-ago release, but due to GTA Online it still counts an incredible number of players. Therefore, the predecessor Grand Theft Auto IV has long since faded into the background, but some gamers who still want to catch up on the earlier parts of the Rockstar action series are still looking for the game. It was all the more astonishing that GTA 4 was suddenly no longer available on Steam.
The unexpected disappearance of the digital PC version of the game on Steam caused quite a stir on the internet – and now also caused a statement by Rockstar Games itself. While the product page is still available on Steam, it is currently still not possible to buy the game on Steam.
Reason according to Rockstar Games: GTA 4 was still designed for the platform Games for Windows Live by Microsoft, but this is no longer available at all. Since Microsoft no longer supports the service, according to Rockstar it is currently not possible to generate additional keys for the title, so that the current version could be sold on.
So is there no chance at all to get GTA 4 for the PC? Not at all! Currently, they are busy establishing and enabling other options to make the game available again on the PC. Further information in this regard is to be announced as soon as possible, it is said.
Grand Theft Auto IV was released for PC back in December 2008, a year after Games for Windows Live launched. The service was discontinued by Microsoft in 2014, which is why developers had to update their titles accordingly. Rockstar Games is now finally forced to do so years later.
