Netflix wants to continue to gain a foothold in the gaming sector and, at the end of last year, acquired a well-known gaming representative for its subscription with the GTA trilogy. This step was apparently worth it and turned out to be a great success for the streaming giant.
According to a new report from mobilegamer.biz The licensing of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy for Netflix has proven to be the great success that was hoped for in order to gain a better foothold in the gaming segment. According to this, a whopping 18 million subscribers to the streaming service have downloaded the action trilogy from Rockstar Games via Netflix Games. This comes from data from Appmagic highlights, with downloads on iOS and Android being covered equally.
The value is quite considerable, after all, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy only landed on Netflix Games in December 2023. Since then, the download numbers of the new editions of the previous GTA classics have skyrocketed, giving Netflix’s gaming segment the boost it was hoping for.
The trilogy includes the classics Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. According to the new report, of the three games, San Andreas was the hottest. This game alone had 11.6 million downloads on iOS and Android. According to surveys by Appmagic GTA: San Andreas should now lead the Netflix Games rankings of the most downloaded games. Vice City barely cracked the top 10 and is currently in 10th place.
The boost from GTA is particularly important for Netflix because the streaming giant’s previous mobile titles did not achieve the success they had hoped for, even though Netflix invested quite a bit here. The success that is now emerging could ensure that Netflix remains active in the gaming sector.
