From March 15th, the specially optimized next-gen version of Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online will be available for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. In advance, Rockstar Games has now announced details about features, character transfer and more.
If you want to play the specially optimized version of GTA V on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S from March 15th, you can look forward to a noticeably improved console experience on these platforms. Rockstar Games promises nothing less than PC-level graphics in a new post with a number of details about the features.
In the new graphics modes, a resolution of up to 4K and a frame rate of up to 60 frames per second are possible; there is also improved texture quality, HDR options, higher population, traffic and vegetation densities, water reflections and ray tracing. Faster loading times, 3D audio and support for platform-specific features (e.g. support for the DualSense controller) are almost self-explanatory. But what does that actually look like in individual cases?
When you get started, you’ll have to choose one of three graphics settings in GTA V:
- the fidelity mode features a native 4K resolution with a target frame rate of 30fps, as well as ray tracing and graphics options that make for the most detailed version yet.
- the performance mode offers an upscaled 4K resolution at 60 FPS with additional elements that enable ultra-high performance.
- RT performance is a mode that offers upscaled 4K resolution and additional ray tracing, while still supporting optimal performance, with a target frame rate of 60 FPS.
In GTA Online, you can also look forward to a number of new vehicles to mark the next-gen launch, as well as the reopening of Los Santos Car Meet: Hao’s Special Works. There you will find unrivaled vehicle improvements, a new type of race with specially modified vehicles and a weekly rotation of HSW time trials. In addition, GTA Online will also be available completely independently for the first time in the future; PS5 players can try this for free for the first three months.
The fresh career selection screen awaits new players; there you get a little head start in the criminal world of southern San Andreas at the beginning. As part of the new system, you’ll receive a rain of cash in the form of GTA$4,000,000 to invest in fundamental aspects such as corporate properties, vehicles, weapons and more. Furthermore, GTA Online for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S includes a variety of new convenience improvements such as a newly developed tutorial for new players, a new menu design that takes you directly to Free Mode, Heists, Races, Adversary Modes, the latest weekly event content and more and more.
Anyone who has already played on PS4 and Xbox One will be able to transfer their game progress in GTA V story mode as well as current characters and game progress in GTA Online once to the new PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Story mode-related transfers can be initiated through the Rockstar Games Social Club starting today. To start this process you will need to load GTA V with your current console account and select the Game tab from the Pause menu. There you click on “Upload save”. Please note: You can only upload one saved game per platform and you have 90 days to download it.
Then, starting March 15th, all progress from GTA Online can be transferred to the Rockstar Games Social Club. This includes all characters, GTA$, game progress, stats, vehicles, real estate, weapons, clothing items and user-generated content such as Snapmatics or player-created jobs.
