Sony has officially introduced the PS5 Pro, but will it be able to display the new GTA 6 at 60 fps in 4K? The technology experts at Digital Foundry have now commented on this in more detail.
After the official launch of the rather expensive PlayStation 5 Pro, gamers around the world are naturally wondering how future games can be played on the new Sony hardware. Probably THE biggest blockbuster in the next few months is Grand Theft Auto VI from Rockstar Games. Can the PS5 Pro play the new action epic in 4K resolution at 60 fps?
The answer to this question is likely to be rather sobering for many hopeful players who are c onsidering buying the platform. Because: The proven technology experts at Digital Foundry
Richard Leadbetter, Technology Editor at Digital Foundry that there are many indications that the first trailer for the game was created based on the PS5 or Xbox Series X. The game should therefore be pretty opulent on both platforms. The whole thing will of course run even better on the PS5 Pro, but the target of a constant 60 fps will probably not be achievable there either.
“No, GTA games have always done complex simulations that push the CPU to the limit. That’s why every GTA game was originally released on their respective platforms with a target of 30 fps (or even lower),” the expert continued. “The PS5 Pro uses the same CPU as the PS5 and it would be extremely challenging to reach 60 fps when the standard PS5 targets 30 fps. This is not a GPU problem, it’s a CPU problem.”
The situation would only be different if Rockstar Games wanted to achieve the target value of 60 fps with a standard PlayStation 5, but there is currently no evidence to suggest this is possible. And as long as that remains the case, the experts at Digital Foundry are more or less ruling out a 4K experience at 60 fps on the PS5 Pro. Instead, players on the more expensive and powerful console should expect higher image quality with roughly the same frame rates compared to the normal PS5.
