The large katanas in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
The large katanas in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree are different from the regular katanas you find in Underland. The latter are heavy and have a much longer blade than normal katanas. Until then, it was possible to carry two katanas without much difficulty; they are light, so attacks are relatively quick.
However, things are different with large katanas; the latter are much heavier (~9/10.5), which makes attacks much slower, especially when carrying two large katanas. However, the damage is there.
There are only three Great Katanas in the Realm of Shadows, so if you’re craving one of these, below are the different paths that will take you there!
Where can you find the great katana?
The first large katana you can find in the Kingdom of Shadows is located in the Tomb Level. The latter is guarded by the Spectral Flame Dragon, which is located in the north of the region on the large body of water east of Belurat, the Tower Colony.
You don’t have to eliminate the dragon to get it. You can very well ride Torrent to the weapon, steal it from the dragon, and then escape to a safe location.
- Required attributes: Strength 14, Dexterity 18
- Special Ability: Straight
This large katana is not a special weapon, so you can equip it with the war ash of your choice and improve it with the help of so-called classic forging stones.
Where can you find the Great Dragon Slayer Katana?
The second large katana you can find in the Realm of Shadows, the Great Dragon Slayer Katana, is obtained by eliminating the Dragon Man in the Dragon Pit Dungeon in the Grave Plain Mountain.
To reach the dungeon, it couldn’t be simpler: start at the Way of Pillars Relay Mercy Site, then take the path littered with broken dragon statues. Following the path marked by the dragon effigies will naturally lead you to the dungeon.
Inside the dungeon, all you have to do is take the path on the left (watching out for the skeleton on the right), cross the chasm to get to the Skeleton Archer at the end and take the path on the left. Then go down the stairs, always to the left. Once you are finally in front of the Dragon Altar, you have to jump into the void to finally arrive in front of the arena of the Dragonman of the dungeon, the bearer of the great Dragon Hunter katana. On the other hand, if you go up the stairs, you will face a Magma Dragon, an optional boss in the dungeon.
- Required attributes: Strength 15, Dexterity 20
- Unique Ability: Dragon Strike
This great katana is a unique weapon, so you cannot equip it with War Ash and its upgrade can only be done with Dark Forge Stones.
Where can I find Rakshasa’s great katana?
Finally, the expansion’s final Great Katana can be found in the Unnamed Eastern Mausoleum, inhabited by Rakshasa, a spirit. You can reach it by descending the cliffs from the Unte ruins. The cliffs are deceptive, so here is the path to follow to enter the Rivière des Reclus gorge.
From the Amont de la rivière des reclus shrine, follow the edge of the cliff until you reach the part with the burial birds. From this edge of the ravine, descend to the cliffs below until you reach the river. Then head south-east and you will naturally arrive at the mausoleum.
- Required Attributes: Strength 12, Dexterity 27
- Unique ability: Mowing
This great katana is a unique weapon, so you cannot equip it with War Ash and its upgrade can only be done with Dark Forge Stones.
