Star Wars: The Acolyte isn’t available yet, but it already promises big things for big Star Wars fans who want to learn more about the universe.
The long-awaited new series Star Wars: The Acolyte is set to revolutionize the Star Wars Expanded Universe by introducing a never-before-seen species. Directed by Leslye Headland, the series will be set in the High Republic era. Roughly 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace, a time previously only explored in novels and comics. A good opportunity to further expand the expanded universe?
Something new for the Star Wars universe
“The Acolyte” focuses on a narrative centered around the Sith, but also promises to include more Jedi than any other film or television series in the Star Wars universe. This approach aims to challenge our current knowledge of the Jedi and Sith. Adding new depth to the saga’s already rich mythology. Leslye Headland, in an interview for StarWars.comrevealed that the series will introduce a Zygerrian Jedi and formalize a previously unknown species within the canonical framework of Star Wars.
The announcement sparked a lot of speculation among fans trying to guess what this mysterious species could be. One of the most popular hypotheses circulating on X/Twitter is Bothans, furry humanoid creatures. And the Yuuzhan Vong, an extragalactic species feared to nearly wipe out the New Republic.
A completely new breed
In the Legends Universe (formerly the Expanded Universe before the Disney takeover), the Yuuzhan Vong come from a galaxy beyond the well-known Star Wars galaxy. They are humanoid creatures. However, they are distinguished by their appearance and unique biology, rejecting all forms of technology in favor of biotechnology. This means that everything from their weapons to their spaceships are biological and alive. The Yuuzhan Vong are not part of the power. This makes them invisible and impervious to Jedi powers, giving them a significant advantage.
As we learn in the novels, her arrival in the Star Wars galaxy is marked by a series of events. As violent as it is destructive. Known as the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion. This war lasted several years and claimed numerous lives. The destruction of entire planets and major political unrest. Well-known heroes of the Star Wars saga such as Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa Solo and Han Solo were deeply affected by the war. They must face not only external threats, but also personal and moral challenges.
It remains to be seen whether they will be the ones introduced in Star Wars: The Acolyte. Which, by the way, debuts on Disney+ on June 4th with two episodes, followed by a new episode every week.
