GRIS: Watercolor Indie is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series

Coming, Gris, Indie, PS5, series, watercolor, Xbox

When it was released in 2018, GRIS impressed less with its in-depth game mechanics than with its graphic style. The watercolor look will be even sharper in the future, because an implementation for PS5 and Xbox Series will be released shortly.

GRIS may not be challenging, not particularly revolutionary from a gameplay point of view, but one thing GRIS is sure of: beautiful. The watercolor-style optics only make limited demands on modern systems, but conjures up fantastic graphics on the screen. As developer Nomada and publisher Devolver Digital have now announced, owners of a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S will soon be able to enjoy the unique style.

The current-gen version will be released on December 13th. Of course, it comes in a crisp, high resolution, but will also offer some console-specific features. You can look forward to the following frame rates and pixel counts:

  • Xbox Series S: 2K resolution at up to 120 frames per second
  • Xbox Series X: 4K resolution at 60 frames per second or 2K resolution at 120 frames per second
  • PlayStation 5: 4K resolution at up to 120 frames per second

PS5 art lovers will continue to get DualSense support. For example, the developers mention support for the haptic features and the controller’s loudspeaker.

GRIS doesn’t focus on heavy challenges, the puzzles are deliberately kept simple, the developers want you to be able to focus entirely on the “experience”. While this might be too artsy-fartsy for some, everyone who embarks on it experiences a unique trip that doesn’t only live from its chic graphic style.
