Just a few months ago, we heard Grand Theft Auto The series as a whole continues to be popular: as of February 2022, the series sales exceeded 370 million, and the latest mainline was released—— GTA 5 – Over 160 million units sold.
Fast forward three months, and this game is – somehow – selling more. During Take-Two Interactive’s Q4 2022 conference call, the publisher noted that GTA V has sold another 5 million units in the past three months.
This means that the Grand Theft Auto series combined have sold 375 million copies worldwide since the last count. Come to think of it, that doesn’t sound great for GTA Trilogy: Definitive Edition, which didn’t even hit a million units last quarter. Boil it down to delayed physical releases, horrific bugs, and missing files.
What’s more, the mobile version of the Grand Theft Auto trilogy has been pushed back to fiscal 2023 — or, to put it more simply, between now and March 2023.
Elsewhere at Rockstar and Take-Two, it’s been revealed that Red Dead Redemption 2 has now sold over 44 million copies. While GTA Online continues to do business and generate regular revenue for the company, Red Dead Online remains in suspended animation (more than a year since the game’s last meaningful update).
Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive, at least acknowledged player frustration, outlining that, yes, more content is planned for the online portion of Western Games. He did not provide any details on what this content will be or when it will be released, though (thanks IGN).
“Rockstar Games talked about the upcoming update, and we’re doing a lot of work at Rockstar Games,” Zelnick said. “I’m flattered to hear the frustration that they want more content, and Rockstar will say more in due course.”
In addition, Take-Two also plans to have a proper port/remaster within the next three years, noting that it plans “twice as many immersive core games” (i.e. with “the deepest gameplay and the most time content” games) is the same as the same period in 2022.
