Gaming News GTA 6: Rockstar is fed up with insiders and leaks that they almost made a radical decision
Due to the leaks, the co-creator of the Grand Theft Auto franchise considered delaying a global announcement. Luckily, he wasn’t the only one who decided to do this and his team was able to talk to him. This reminds us that even if GTA 6 is scheduled for 2025, nothing is guaranteed, everything can change, in any case we must be patient and understanding when faced with Rockstar’s decisions…
A software that was announced before it was announced
The world’s most anticipated game, Grand Theft Auto 6, has been the subject of leaks since the beginning. On November 7, 2023, Bloomberg journalist Jason Shreier announced on X that “Rockstar plans to announce Grand Theft Auto 6 very soon and will release a trailer in December“. Information released a day before the official announcement by Sam Houser, co-creator of the franchise. The latter was unhappy about not being the first to deliver the good news and strongly considered postponing the announcement of the release of the trailer for the title. An insider in this story explains: “I remember (Sam Houser) wanted to delay the November announcement by a week just to annoy Scherier, but we talked him out of it.” (Source: Dexerto). In fact, the decision was not only the responsibility of the CEO, but of the entire team.
Culture du Leak
Subsequently, the trailer in question itself was leaked, prompting Rockstar to release it earlier than expected. That’s all fans have been offered since then: a single trailer. Sure, this appetizer is tasty and rich, but it’s still been a year since players analyzed in detail every pixel that appeared in the video. From then on, and even more than before, the studio is very careful about its secret. However, the risk is everywhere: Given the gigantic number of people involved, it is impossible to monitor everything. We don’t know the exact numbers, but in comparison around 2,000 people worked on Red Dead Redemption 2 and around a thousand people worked on GTA 5. Result: Project participants reveal their status on networks like Linkedin or describe a little about their role in history…
Rockstar is obviously not the only one affected by the leaks. Nintendo’s very secret motion detection system was discovered long before the announcement of Alarmo, its interactive alarm clock. Another recent example: the “Teraleak,” the huge leak of game source code and script documents from Game Freak. The problem is that such information excites fans. Once they’re released, they generate clicks, go viral, and studios, no matter how big, can’t do much about it. There’s no sign that a second trailer for GTA 6 is planned this year, but there’s nothing to stop us hoping.
