In an open letter to the GTA community, Rockstar thanks them for their loyalty and also lets out the release date for the next-gen version of the online offshoot of GTA 5.
Owners of the new consoles with a penchant for GTA Online can mark a day in red on their calendar. GTA Online is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on March 15th. Rockstar has also commented on the next-gen features that will be missed in the title, which is now experiencing the third generation of consoles.
The list reads well. We’re talking about new graphics modes with up to 4K resolution, 60 frames per second, texture and draw distance upgrades, HDR options and ray tracing. There are also other improvements such as faster loading times thanks to the fast SSDs, 3D audio and platform-specific features such as haptic feedback.
Owners of the PS4 and Xbox One versions will have the opportunity to transfer their GTA 5 Story Mode progress and current GTA Online characters and progress to the new consoles as part of a one-time migration at launch.
In addition, a free standalone version of GTA Online for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will be released in parallel. The only catch is that Xbox players will have to wait a bit, as the new version will initially be exclusive to the PS5 for three months.
This is not the end of all the innovations. In the future you can skip the GTA 5 story mode prologue to dive straight into GTA Online, and there is also a new tutorial for GTA Online. A new Career Builder is also included, with which you can select four businesses directly, which can also be used by returnees who can reset their characters. Also new: the new Hao’s Special Works Auto Shop, which allows players to upgrade certain vehicles (five new and five existing).
Apart from that, Rockstar is now officially confirming that a new Grand Theft Auto is in development. The first information on this should be published in the foreseeable future. the entire announcement you can check it out on the Rockstar site.
