First the good news: A new version of the Retexture Project for GTA: Vice City has been released. The free 1 GB mod revises countless textures of the game to make the aged Vice City look crisp even on modern systems. Here are a few comparison pictures from the official Moddb website:
The mod has been under development for almost two years, on February 26, 2020 version 1.5 was released, which revised other textures in the game. So all in all an enjoyable undertaking to keep GTA: Vice City pretty.
But there is also bad news: Modder msborges will almost certainly not continue the mod project in the future. According to the mod description, he has lost interest in it himself and there is no one who wants to do the work. Version 1.5 could therefore remain the last version of the mod.
Whether there is something coming or not: You can download the current variant of the Vice CIty Retexture Project from the msborges Moddb page.
By the way, there are similar efforts in the area of graphic upgrades at GTA: San Andreas: Mods such as V Graphics and Srt3 Mipmap bring the San Andreas experience to a new graphic level.
