Bandai Namco is continuing its long-running Gundam series once again. However, Gundam Evolution is breaking new ground, as it is a free-to-play hero shooter.
The new Gundam Evolution should still cause a sensation in 2022. The title announced by Bandai Namco will be released in Europe, North America and Japan for the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC platforms. Other Asian regions are also planned for a release later.
The new title is the first free-to-play hero shooter in the Gundam series. The focus is on a 6v6 team play dynamic with playable mobile suits from across the Gundam multiverse.
The game will feature three objective-based game modes: Score Conquest, Domination, and Destruction. It will also feature a series of challenges that require teams to develop and execute offensive and defensive strategies in order to achieve victory.
Each playable unit has a combination of offensive, defensive, and/or support abilities that significantly affect the tide of battle. The starting roster of playable characters includes 12 units, including the classic RX-78-2 Gundam and the ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos. Additional Mobile Suits and customizable items can be unlocked in two ways: Capital Points (CP), which are collected through gameplay, or EVO Coins, which can be purchased in the real world.
Those who choose the optional paid Season Pass can unlock cosmetic accessories as they progress through the game, including mobile suit skins, weapon skins and more. A concrete release date is still pending.
