That was fast. Gundam Evolution is closing its doors later this year, joining the long list of live service flops less than a year after launch.
Bandai Namco actually intended to get involved in the hero shooter genre a la Overwatch with Gundam Evolution, but the attempt apparently went horribly wrong. Only released in September 2022 for PC and December 2022 for consoles, the 6vs6 shooter will close its doors on November 29th.
Sale of EVO Coins, EC Pod Limited and updates for EC Pods, CAP Pods and Ticket Pods will end on July 26th. You can still use up any EVO Coins you still have until the service is switched off. Refunds are not to be expected. Also, there will be no new items that can be purchased with EVO Coins.
You will still receive some new content despite the coming end. Season 6 goes live on August 23, adding a new unit and two new maps. Season 7 starts on October 25th and adds another new unit and map.
Producer Kazuya Maruyama said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that we announce the end of Gundam Evolution. We wanted to create a title that would bring first-person shooter fans and Gundam fans together. We challenged ourselves to create an authentic Gundam -To develop a first-person shooter game that can be played worldwide. Unfortunately, we have found that we are no longer able to provide a service that satisfies our players.”
