If you are considering downloading One Punch Man World Check it out this weekend, you might want to get ready. Crunchyroll’s latest gacha game has a $1,000 character pack on sale, and you can buy it now for a one-time discount of $99.99! How generous! Guys, this is definitely a step too far.
The game, which was released for mobile and PC two days ago, is developed by Perfect World Games and published by popular anime streaming platform and publisher Crunchyroll. This is an action RPG where you control many of your favorite One Punch Man characters in tense life or death battles. Of course, there’s a price to pay. Everything comes at a price. Don’t forget the pool we swim in here.

Now, players diving into the world of One Punch Man can choose to purchase the SSR (which stands for Super) for $99.99 excellent Rare) Character Pack and get one of the rarest characters – no need to test your luck on traditional gacha-style reels. Hey, look how great this game is and it’s a one-time sale! It’s clearly on the package – which is normally worth $999.99.That’s 90% off – you can almost Throw the money away Don’t buy it!
This is obviously rancid. For those who think there’s no way they can actually sell this bundle for $1,000 – if the company doesn’t typically buy the product at the regularly listed price, then they can’t insist on selling it. This is why you can’t walk into a store and see clothes permanently 50% off. If so, it would encourage a false sense of urgency and would actually be illegal in the UK.
People will buy this discounted pack, assuming there’s no loophole that allows One Punch Man World to display a $1,000 price tag, but the pack isn’t actually being sold at that price, and a small group of players might even grab the full pack for that price also. This is the reality of the whale economy that many games today rely on. There will be some rich but time poor people who want a maxed out role and won’t care too much about spending that much money. Historically, there may also be people who are not wealthy but feel a strong temptation to do so anyway.
I play gacha games like Honkai Impact, gosh, I even bought it for £100 not too long ago. I’m not going to sit here and wax poetic about the evils of microtransactions. But there’s definitely a line. Gacha games in general have an inherent vulgarity that one can choose to avoid entirely or indulge in, then slap a $1,000 price tag on the bundle, heavily discount it, and then glorify it so that the impulse to buy is gone. Will add extra height.
When you look at the legacy of other Crunchyroll games, it’s especially rough. Street Fighter Duel may still be popular, but the player base is much smaller than it was at launch. Then you can play games like Princess Connect! Re: Dive – Closed in the West. That’s the problem with a lot of drops in these games – they can drop or disappear suddenly.
So kids, don’t spend $1,000 to play One Punch Man World. Don’t pass up $99 just because you think it’s a bargain. Spend that money on a vacation or a nice meal with your loved ones.
