I play gacha games like Honkai Impact, gosh, I even bought it for £100 not too long ago. I’m not going to sit here and wax poetic about the evils of microtransactions. But there’s definitely a line. Gacha games in general have an inherent vulgarity that one can choose to avoid entirely or indulge in, then slap a $1,000 price tag on the bundle, heavily discount it, and then glorify it so that the impulse to buy is gone. When you look at the legacy of other Crunchyroll games, it’s especially rough. Street Fighter Duel may still be popular, but the player base is much smaller than it was at launch.
