Emily disappeared. For four weeks missing from the little girl every trace. Almost all of Bethelwood have already given up searching but not their cousin Sally. Everywhere she sticks profiles and hopes to get a sign of life. But only an accident leads them on the right track …
After a bicycle crash, Sally finds herself in the middle of nowhere. To get back to the city, you only have the old cable car. But on the way, the gondola passes through a kind of portal that leads to another reality. Sally immediately realizes that something is wrong when she enters a ruined and deserted Bethelwood. The only still intact road leads straight to the grounds of the local school. As Sally suddenly sees Emily scurrying past one of the windows, she enters the building with the determination to find her cousin.

But just like the rest of the city, the school seems to have sprung from a nightmare: Almost all the lights have failed, black tentacles with bulky eyesight obstruct many doors and nasty monsters roam nasty groaning through the corridors. Luckily, Sally finds a flashlight that not only brightens dark trails, but also fends off the gruesome creatures.
Nevertheless, in some places it makes more sense to sneak past the creatures in the shelter of filing cabinets and school desks. Because when the beasts attack and catch the girl, the energy is quickly over. Remedy collectable asthma traps, with which Sally literally catching his breath.
Children can be cruel
With a bit of action, a lot of sneaking and occasional puzzles, the search for Emily leads mainly through the various areas of the school, such as auditorium and sports hall. There are also short detours in the city and in the sewers. A small map helps you to find your way around and shows you next to the next destin ation also the locations of fresh flashlight batteries and new inhalers.
An even more important reason for keeping your eyes open are the parts of Emily's journal. These can be found throughout the building and tell a sad story: Emily is bullied by her classmates. The further Sally comes, the more desperate the entries of her cousin read. Paintings on the walls and disfigured figures in the rooms and corridors also show situations from the everyday life of a child who is constantly insulted, harassed and marginalized.
Theme and style provide the potential for a rousing and emotional story, but unfortunately it is not exhausted. Developer Tequila Works (RiME, Deadlight) leaves it at a cursory inspection and limited to simple approaches to solutions and assistance. Nevertheless, it is good and important to whip up and draw attention to the often underestimated or unrecognized phenomenon of bullying.

Together with the dark, comic graphics and a scary-sounding soundtrack, Gylt unfolds a subtly scary but never stressful or even frightening mood. But all gameplay remains too simple and predictable. Even the clashes with big monsters hardly cause suspense because of their staid staging.
Technical shortcomings were limited in the test of Gylt. In some places, Sally reacted stubbornly when crawling or at corners and thereby unintentionally alerted opponents. In between there were also short fluctuations in the resolution and frame rate. All this we attribute to the connection to the Stadia servers.
