Supergiant Games not only wishes you a Merry Christmas, but also takes the opportunity to share some very good and bad news about Hades 2.
It's already been six months since Hades 2 was released in Early Access, with a first draft already divine. This was then refined with various updates. It also received a major patch, the Olympic Update, which further developed Melinoë's story, with new areas to explore, new bosses to face, and new weapons and features to aid her. But there still seems to be a long way to go until version 1.0 of the game from Supergiant Games is released, as the talented independent studio explains in its annual report.
Hades 2 still has a long way to go to the summit of Olympus
In many ways, Hades 2 is the most ambitious game Supergiant Games has ever created. The independent studio celebrated its 15th anniversary in September with prestigious titles such as Bastion, Transistor, Pyre and the divine roguelite Hades. However, the sequel, accompanied by Zagreus' sister, is on a completely different level and is said to be a truly Homeric task for the studio. He therefore pointed out that the game's early access should enable a second major update in early 2025.
This, like the Olympic Update, will further expand the story of Hades 2 with a variety of new features. With this future update it would finally be a question of “ Experience the final showdown of the game's alternate route “. After that, we're entitled to a new series of more modest updates, mostly focused on balancing or bug fixes. Finally, Supergiant Games says that a second major update is scheduled to arrive sometime next year.
Unfortunately, this doesn't equate to a version 1.0 release of Hades 2. The studio is actually saving the game's true ending for its official release… which doesn't have a release date yet. This will depend on the speed at which the two major updates are rolled out to Early Access. Even if a release at the end of 2025 is not yet ruled out, it seems more likely that Hades 2 will not appear in its full version before 2026. We definitely wish Supergiant Games all the best and are watching very closely what they are preparing for Melinoë in her divine adventure aimed at killing time.
