Half-Life 2 is still one of the greatest classics of the shooter genre and many fans continue to hope that the franchise will continue at some point. A new video now shows at least impressively what could be done with the almost two decades old shooter based on Unreal Engine 5.
Valve isn’t planning a remake of Half-Life 2, even though many shooter fans would probably like that. Nevertheless, a video that impressively underlines the possibilities for such a project is causing a stir.
The YouTube channel TeaserPlay has created a new showcase video based on the modern Unreal Engine 5 – and shows Half-Life 2 in a completely new splendor. A lot could be made of the cult shooter originally released in 2004 if it were put on a new technical footing.
Whether Valve would ever actually take up such a project is uncertain. After all, the developer recently launched a new VR offshoot with Half-Life: Alyx – the first Half-Life game in 13 years. This was well received, so there is at least some hope that the developer could remain loyal to the brand.
Until then, you can indulge in daydreams thanks to the new video, because the YouTube channel shows numerous locations and character models from the original Half-Life 2 completely modernized.
