Not every fan of the series tasted that the new Half-Life was produced exclusively as a VR title. The developers are explicitly for mods that remove the VR from the game.

After the release of Half-Life: Alyx, the modder community is already rotating properly to create a non-VR experience from the pure VR title. It cannot be ruled out that we can enjoy the game without VR glasses in the foreseeable future.
Interestingly, the development team explicitly supports these efforts instead of just rolling their eyes moaning. Valve's Robin Walker commented that such mods can provide a better understanding of why the studio chose a VR game as soon as you got the "garbled version" without VR in your hands. With the removal of VR, many of the game's key achievements and features would be lost.
Valve was more concerned about announcing the game than completing it, and was well aware of the fans' skeptical reactions. But it was said that a successful game would reconcile the fans and if the game had not turned out well, nobody would have done it away.
