There have been rumors about a remake of the first Halo for a long time – and according to a new report, this could be coming sooner than expected.
Microsoft certainly expected more from the current Halo Infinite, but that doesn’t change the fact that the Halo series is one of the most renowned and successful action brands in the gaming industry. It all started with Halo: Combat Evolved, and is rumored to be returning in the form of a remake.
There has been speculation about a souped-up new edition of the sci-fi shooter classic for a long time – and the topic seems to remain relevant even after the extensive changes at developer 343 Industries, which is now called Halo Studios. A remake would not be the first comeback of the original game, as there was already a revised version with more modern graphics for the 10th anniversary with Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. The game is also included in this form in the Halo: The Master Chief Collection from 2014.
Nevertheless, a new remake – probably based on Unreal Engine 5 – could be on the horizon sooner than we might have expected. At least that’s what the well-known and reliable insider Shpeshal_Nick said in a new issue of XboxEra Podcast
The new remake of Halo is supposed to be developed from scratch, but is already halfway advanced. The insider no longer assumes a release in 2025, but rather a release in 2026. It is not unlikely that the work is already advanced – after all, the release of Halo Infinite was three years ago and resources have been available since then makers became free.
